Time well spent: Deputy CEO Ellen Green reflects on Pact's 2022 Conference
It was great to see so many people at our Annual Conference at De Montfort University in Leicester this week. After two years of holding conferences sitting at home on my laptop, it was fantastic to see so many friends and colleagues in the same room.
The theme of this year’s conference was ‘time well spent’ and how we can work together to make sure that people in prison are given the support they need to make a fresh start. This isn’t just about doing the right thing for prisoners and their families. Delivering ‘time well spent’ helps to create more stable regimes for staff and prisoners alike and creates safer communities by reducing reoffending.
It was a great to hear from a range of speakers from HMPPS, the sector and academia. We were also delighted to update delegates on some of the projects we have underway to keep prisoners in touch with the families and loved ones.
Crucially though we heard the voices of people with lived experience of the criminal justice system. The people closest to the problem are closest to the solution and we at Pact are committed to supporting them to tell their stories. As a sector, we are making hugely encouraging progress in listening to the voices of the people who have been directly affected by imprisonment bur there is always more to do.
Thank you again to everyone who attended and participated, and we hope to see you next year!
